UREC Announces the 2018 Pre-Law Institute Scholars in Partnership with Southern University Law Center

(Baton Rouge) – A cohort of 15 aspiring youth from Greater Baton Rouge area high schools will receive university level exposure to the profession and practice of law through the Pre-Law Institute presented by Urban Restoration Enhancement Corporation’s (UREC) College & Career Ready Initiative in partnership with Southern University Law Center (SULC).
The Pre-Law Institute is a 14-week, after-school intensive that introduces high school students to civics, law and the criminal justice system, while studying under the auspices of pre-law instructors at SULC. The academic portion of the course will incorporate curriculum from the Education Development Center’s Law and Justice Program.
To optimize the academic component, the institute will include experiential learning through mock trial preparation and facilitation.  Participants will also have access to the law center’s state-of-the-art moot court room and will engage in developmental seminars with local legal professionals.
