(Baton Rouge, LA) – Urban Restoration Enhancement Corporation is pleased to announce that Jayda Woods is the recipient of the 2021 Ronnie Edwards Scholarship. Woods recently graduated from Baton Rouge Magnet High with a 3.5 GPA. While in high school, she participated in UREC’s College & Career Ready Pre-Law Institute for two years and served others through community and civic engagement while overcoming personal adversity.
Woods said: “UREC’s pre-law program was an eye-opening experience that prepared me for college and my future career. As a participant, I found a community where I could fit in among other students who looked like me. My favorite part of the program was participating in our class discussions where we talked about current events and law topics that were difficult to address.”
To further her education and career goals, Woods has enrolled in Florida A & M University where she will study political science.
She said, “Earning the Ronnie Edwards Scholarship is very encouraging. It means that people in my community saw enough in me to help me pay for college. Like my family, friends, and mentors, this scholarship motivates me to be successful in college. I am very grateful.”
The Ronnie Edwards Scholarship honors the legacy and contributions of UREC founder Ronnie Edwards. Mrs. Edwards founded UREC in 1992, pioneered our youth development initiatives, and championed education while advancing the organization’s purpose of “Building Today’s Communities for Tomorrow.” UREC is honored to present this scholarship in her memory.
