UREC, Local Banks to offer Lock & Key Homebuyers Club in 2023

(Baton Rouge) – Urban Restoration Enhancement Corporation (UREC) is launching an all-new Lock & Key Homebuyers Club to provide in-depth homebuyer education, counseling, and support to families who desire homeownership yet may have faced prior challenges in their efforts to realize that goal.

UREC will offer four Lock & Key Homebuyers Club sessions throughout 2023 on a quarterly basis. There is no cost to participate, as each club is offered through partnerships with: Cadence Bank, Chase, Hancock Whitney Bank, Red River Bank and Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation. Red River Bank will sponsor the first Lock & Key Homebuyers Club, which will take place January 26, 2023 – March 2, 2023. Sessions will take place at St. Mary’s Baptist Church, 1252 N Acadian Thruway in Baton Rouge.

Lock & Key is a hands-on, 3-month membership-based initiative that provides members with individual and group counseling, a detailed credit plan, and access to closing cost and down payment resources while working with experts.

Carl Dillon Jr., President and CEO of UREC said: “We recognize that informed and engaged homebuyers are more likely to gain access to the various closing cost and down payment assistance programs available. Our goal is to provide strong homebuyer education, while increasing the number of homeownership ready families in the Baton Rouge area.”

Jan S. Ross, Executive Vice President of Philanthropy for Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation, said: “We’ve made purposeful investments in UREC’s community development programs over the last decade and continue to see the impact of its work throughout Baton Rouge. As a partner for the Lock and Key Homebuyers program we anticipate seeing more families educated, empowered, and owning homes.”

Session topics will cover:

  • Assessing readiness to buy and budgeting
  • Banking and credit
  • Financing a home
  • Selecting a home and loan closing
